Educator Evaluation System
During the
2013-2014 school year, New Jersey will be in full implementation of the
new statewide educator evaluation system. In 2012, the State
Legislature approved the TEACHNJ Act. (Official citation for the statewide initiative is: C.18A:6-117. It is known as the "Teacher Effectiveness and Accountability for the Children of New Jersey Act.")
On
March 6, 2013, NJDOE proposed regulations outlining educator evaluation
policies for the 2013-14 school year. This statewide evaluation system
is called AchieveNJ.
Our district established a
District Evaluation Advisory Committee (DEAC) during the 2011-12 school
year. The committee consisted of several stakeholders including
parents, teachers, administrators and board of education members. They
reviewed, evaluated and selected the Danielson Framework for Teaching as
the observation tool for teachers. The Marshall Evaluation Rubric was
selected for the administrators in the district. As additional
requirements are provided by the New Jersey Department of Education, the
DEAC will reconvene during the 2013-14 school year.
